2007 Boys State Sponsorship

Hello Everyone

Its that time of the year for Boys State and we are looking for new sponsors
Please ask any group you may belong to if they are intrested in sponsoring a Boys State Citizen. If they cannot afford to sponsor a canidate they can sponsor a partial one and monies will be combined to send a boy.

The 2007 session of the American Legion Boy's State will be held on the campus of the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, from June 16th to June 23rd This program is in it's 68th session and continues to teach our youth to understand and appreciate the basic principles involved in the successful management of a democratic society, so we can keep America strong and ensure freedom for future generations. Post 95 plans on sending 9 area "future leaders" this year. The cost of this great program is $350.00 per participant.

After holding the program fee unchanged for six years, it has become necessary to increase the fee to $350 per citizen. This increase is mainly due to the rise in housing, food, and program related expenses. While cost cutting measures were implemented, they were not enough to continue providing the excellent leadership program offered for the past 66 years without a program fee increase. In spite of this increase we are confident that this exciting 8-day leadership program is a tremendous value compared to similar programs offered not just in Missouri, but nationwide.

Your sponsorship of these programs would be greatly appreciated by Post 95 and mostly the potential participants. If you can't sponsor a full participant, perhaps you could become a half sponsorship ($150.00). Your "investment" in America's future can be made by a check payable to the American Legion Boys State of Missouri, Inc.. Please mail your tax deductible contribution to American Legion Post 95, P.O. BOX 417, Liberty, MO 64068. If you have any questions, or know of a Liberty High School junior that may be interested in participating, feel free to contact me at 833-7285. All money must be in by April 1st. I will have a list of boys to pick from in the near future.

I have several items for your post. You seem to be nineteen members short of your 2007 membership goal. I will send your post names from time to time which you should be able to join to your post. All it takes is a 39 cent stamp on a letter telling the individual that he has been placed on the membership roster of your post. Give them the opportunity to turn down your offer. Give them a date, time anit location of your meeting. Wait a short time for the individual to respond to your offer. If no response is received, process the necessary paper work to Department for the transfer to your post.
The 3rd District Oratorical Contest was held on the 28th of January I am sorry that an error was made and the student from Liberty was not awarded that which he was entitled to. The declared winner this year was from Albany and will participate in the Zone 2 competition on 4 February in Richmond.
The next District meeting is scheduled for 8 April 2007 at Excelsior Springs, but I see that this is Easter Sunday. So I am rescheduling the meeting for 15 April if there is not a conflict. At this meeting I would like to set a slate of 3rd District Officers. If anyone in your post would like to run for an office please submit his name and the office he is seeking.
If your post is considering sponsoring an American Legion baseball team. Be aware that the American Legion Baseball Corporation is no longer handing Legion BasebalL Registration will be to the Department of Missouri American Legion Baseball Commission.

COMMANDER�S COMMENTS

I want to congratulate the post of the Third District for making this district number one in the Department of Missouri in membership. This is something that has taken us 42 years to accomplish. Now is the time to start anew. For both the Department and National has seen fit to increase membership dues by a total of nine dollars. This will require the post to increase their dues a like amount. We can buy a little time by two methods. (1) Push �Paid Up For Life� Memberships or (2) pay your current membership dues before the 1st of the Year and delay the increase until the 2003 membership drive.
